Balele: The anticipation for the 22nd Kodava Inter-Family Cricket Tournament, also known as the Aramanamada Cricket Cup 2024, is reaching its zenith as the prestigious event gears up for its inauguration on April 21, 2024. Organized by Aramanamada family, this year's tournament promises to be a spectacle for cricket enthusiasts across Kodagu.
The event, now in its 5th edition at the Balele Vijayalakshmi college ground, is set to witness a record participation with an estimated 200 to 250 teams vying for glory. Additionally, the Aramanamada family has added a new dimension to the tournament by introducing the Kodava Women's Inter-Family Cricket Tournament for the first time in its history. This move is hailed as a significant step towards promoting gender inclusivity in sports within the Kodava community.
Aramanamada K Suresh, President of the Aramanamada Cricket Cup 2024, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to unveil the Kodava Women's Inter-Family Tournament this year, marking a milestone in the history of Kodava cricket. It reflects our commitment to fostering talent and providing equal opportunities for participation."
Suguna Ganapathy, Vice-President of the Aramanamada Cricket Cup 2024, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of promoting women's cricket in the region. "The inclusion of the women's tournament underscores our dedication to empowering women in sports and encouraging their active involvement in cricket," Ganapathy said.
Prize and entry fee
The tournament boasts attractive prize money for the winners, runners-up, and teams securing the third and fourth positions, with the winners set to receive a substantial cash prize along with trophies. The logo for the event was unveiled last October 2023 by Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna MLA, Virajpet, and Legal Advisor to the Karnataka Chief Minister, at the Balale Kodava Samaja.
The entry fee for participation stands at a fixed rate of Rs 2000 per team. Prizes for the winners include Rs 100,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up will receive Rs 75,000 and a trophy. The third-place team will be awarded Rs 50,000 and a trophy, whereas the fourth-place team will receive Rs 25,000 along with a trophy.
Aramanamada K Suresh, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming cricket festival, stating, "We are expecting a massive turnout of around 200 to 250 teams and an average of 10,000 enthusiastic cricket fans from across Kodagu."
About Aramanamada Family
Regarding the Aramanamada Family, Suresh elaborated, "Aramanamada Family holds a significant place among the 842 plus Okkas in Kodagu. Our ancestors served the Raja in his palace, hence earning the name Aramanemada, which evolved to Aramanamada over time. With a total of 90 families spread along the banks of Lakshmana Tirtha river, our Ainmamane is situated at Besagoor, and our family members are dispersed across Kodagu and beyond."
