Madikeri: Cheyandane village in Kodagu came alive on Sunday with the vibrancy of the ‘Arebhashe Gadi Nadu Utsava,’ where the Arebhashe Gowda community gathered in large numbers to celebrate their heritage.
Organised by the Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi and Sahitya Academy, the event featured a lively array of sports and cultural activities, including a running race, shot put, tug of war, and traditional performances.
The festivities were inaugurated by retired Indian Navy personnel, Pudhayamane Krishna, who urged the community to keep the Arebhashe language thriving. “Our language and culture will strengthen only if all members of our community make an effort to speak Arebhashe,” he emphasized.
The highlight of the day was a marathon from Kadanga to Cheyandane, with enthusiastic participation from men and women of all ages, showcasing their spirit and endurance. Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna and Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda were also present at the event's inauguration.
Kodagu-Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and former Virajpet MLA K.G. Bopaiah attended the closing ceremony. MP Wadiyar lauded the diversity of Indian village cultures, saying, “Every village in our country has a unique culture, which is the strength of our nation. We must continue to preserve and promote the Arebhashe culture and language.”
The event brought the Arebhashe community together, celebrating their shared heritage while highlighting the importance of cultural preservation and linguistic pride.
