
Madikeri: Under the aegis of the HQ Southern Command, the Indian Army conducted a Veterans’ Outreach programme in Madikeri on Monday, extending support to veterans, veer naris, and their dependents from Madikeri and Virajpet in Kodagu district.
The event witnessed the presence of senior military officials, including Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Southern Command, Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, PVSM, AVSM, GOC, Dakshin Bharat Area, and Major General V.T. Mathew, AVSM, YSM, GOC, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area.

During the programme, Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth interacted with the pensioners and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the veterans, veer naris, and their families. Acknowledging their sacrifices and service to the nation, he reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to supporting its veterans and their families. The outreach saw participation from 565 veterans and veer naris.
Officials from seven different record offices under the Southern Command, along with representatives from the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA), Bengaluru, were present at the event. A total of 376 grievances related to the SPARSH pension system and other entitlements were resolved on the spot. Additionally, a medical and dental team provided healthcare services to 72 individuals.

A cancer screening camp was also organised, during which 19 individuals underwent screening. Officials from the Zonal Recruiting Office (ZRO), Bengaluru, the district sainik welfare and resettlement office in Madikeri, and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation briefed attendees on welfare schemes, re-employment opportunities, and recruitment processes.
The outreach programme was well received by the veterans’ fraternity, according to an official press release.
As part of his visit, Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth paid homage to fallen soldiers at the Gen Thimayya War Memorial in Madikeri on March 24, 2025, in recognition of the sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of Kodagu. He was joined by Lt. Gen. Karanbir Singh Brar and Maj. Gen. V.T. Mathew in paying respects to the martyrs.

Following this, Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth also visited the Gen Thimayya Museum, where he reflected on the invaluable contributions of General Thimayya to the nation and the Indian Army.
