Madikeri: The Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, in association with the Mathanda family from Bellumadu village, will host the eagerly awaited "Bael Namme" (Paddy Field Festival) on August 14. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. and take place at the Mathanda family's paddy fields.
The celebration will feature several dignitaries, including the state agriculture minister, N. Chaluvaraya Swamy and the MLA AS Ponnanna and Mantar Gowda, adding a touch of prestige to the occasion. The highlight of the program will be the Racing on the paddy fields and tug-of-war competitions, designed to engage participants of all ages.
The racing will have four categories: men, women, boys, and girls. Winners in the male and female categories will receive shields, along with cash prizes of Rs. 2000 for first place, Rs. 1500 for second, and Rs. 1000 for third, in addition to mementos and letters of appreciation. For the boys and girls, the prizes are Rs. 1500 for first place, Rs. 1000 for second, and Rs. 700 for third, along with mementos and letters of appreciation.
According to Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, in the tug-of-war competition, which includes men and women’s categories, the winning team will be awarded Rs. 10,000 and a commemorative certificate, while the second-place team will receive Rs. 7,000 and a certificate. Each tug-of-war team will consist of 7+1 contestants.
Participants are required to register by 5 p.m. on August 12, as per the Academy's guidelines.
