BJP drops Pratap Simha, fields Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar for Kodagu-Mysore seat

The rationale behind the decision to remove Mr. Simha, who secured victory in the Mysore-Kodagu constituency in both 2014 and 2019, remains unclear.

Mysuru: The BJP on 13 March Wednesday dropped Pratap Simha, the sitting MP from Kodagu-Mysore seat, and fielded Mysuru royal scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar from the seat.

The rationale behind the decision to remove Mr. Simha, who secured victory in the Mysore-Kodagu constituency in both 2014 and 2019, remains unclear. Nonetheless, there is speculation that a significant factor could have been the security breach in Parliament during December 2023, wherein protestors utilized passes issued by Mr Simha to gain access to the visitors’ gallery.

The breach of Parliament security sparked a significant confrontation between the government and opposition parties. The opposition demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi within the House and called for action against Mr Simha.

Notably, earlier in the day, the BJP leader hinted that the party might not nominate him in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, as he urged his supporters "not to protest." Mr. Simha expressed on X (previously known as Twitter) that his entire "political existence" is owed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Dear karyakarthas & well-wishers, what am I without beloved @narendramodi ji? See these 2 photos and understand. I owe my political existence to Modi ji. I humbly request all of you to not protest. We all belong to one family, let’s work for Modi ji," he posted on X.

Shortly after the BJP unveiled its second candidate list, Mr Simha extended congratulations to the Mysore royal scion for securing a spot on the list. "Congratulations to Maharaja Sri. Yaduveer," he expressed.
