Bengaluru: On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accompanied by his Legal Advisor and Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna, and Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh, addressed a press conference to clarify the controversy surrounding the allocation of 14 alternative sites by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to his wife, Parvathi.
Siddaramaiah emphasized that the MUDA's allotment of these 14 residential sites to Parvathi was a legal rectification following the earlier wrongful acquisition of her land. He asserted that the MUDA had acknowledged its error and that a committee from the authority, which included representatives from the BJP, JD(S), and Congress, had approved the alternative sites in 2021 during the BJP administration.
The Chief Minister refuted claims by BJP and JD(S) leaders that this land transfer violated the Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prohibition of Transfer of Certain Lands) Act (PTCL Act). He accused the opposition of using the issue as a form of political retribution, aiming to tarnish his reputation and that of the Congress government. Siddaramaiah argued that their actions stemmed from envy over his return as Chief Minister and his clean political record spanning over four decades. He presented detailed property documents dating back to 1935 to substantiate the legality of the land allotment.
This press conference follows a petition by the BJP and JD(S) to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, demanding Siddaramaiah’s resignation over alleged irregularities related to the MUDA land allocation.
In support of Siddaramaiah, Ponnanna and Byrathi Suresh presented comprehensive documentation to reinforce the legitimacy of the 14 sites granted to the Chief Minister’s wife.
