Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) is set to conduct a Peaceful Codava Satyagraha on January 5, starting from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The event will be led by CNC volunteers in the vicinity of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Madikeri.
The demands of the Satyagraha include the establishment of a Commission to address the realization of Codava Quest for Geo-Political Autonomy. This advocacy has been supported by Former Union Law & Justice Minister Subramanian Swamy in the WP (PIL) No-7769/2023 presented before the High Court of Karnataka. Alternatively, the proposal suggests the formation of a Second State Re-Organization Commission.

“As per UN Resolution 217 A(111) UN Recognition for Indigenous Codava micro ethnic group under International Law. UNO Charter and its subsequent covenants and declarations up holds the Self- determination Rights of Indigenous People across the World.In which Indian government is a signatory,” CNC president N.U. Nachappa stated in a press release.
“ST tag for Codavas- initiate and conduct comprehensive and meticulous Ethnographic study on the directions of the High Court of Karnataka in the WP no- 7003/ 2021 filed by Codava National Council. Since Codavas are the aboriginal indigenous native tribal People of Codava territory, our paramount aspirations and honourable goals of Internal Political-Self -Determination Rights and carving of Codavaland Geo-Political Autonomy, Self- Rule and other 9 legitimate ethnic issues are to be considered and resolved at its earliest in the interest of justice and equity.” Mr Nachappa added in the release.

Following the Satyagraha, the CNC will submit a comprehensive memorandum through the District Administration to the following dignitaries: the President of India, Prime Minister of India, Minister for Home Affairs, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Subramanian Swamy, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization (UNO), and the Director of UNESCO.
