Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) is set to commemorate the 33rd Annual Codava National Day and Constitution Day on November 26 at Capitol Village, Madikeri.
Speaking to The Kodagu Express, Nandineravanda U. Nachappa, President of CNC, said, "CNC aims to reaffirm and revitalize Kodagu's geopolitical aspirations for autonomy, affirming Kodavas' unity in advocating for self-determination and the rights of the Kodava tribal community during the Annual Codava National Day."
“The Kodava community, rooted in tribal culture, was recognized in a recent ethnographic survey. The Kodava language traces its origins back to pre-Dravidian times and has recently been influenced by Kannada and other languages, potentially impacting its originality and cultural aspects,” Mr Nachappa explained.
For almost three decades, Mr. Nachappa has been advocating for the grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Kodavas, the recognition of geopolitical status for Kodagu, safeguarding the sacred rights related to firearms, and the inclusion of Kodava Thakk in the 8th Schedule of the constitution, adding Kodava culture to UNESCO's list of cultural heritage and establishing a memorial for genocide at the Devatparamb site.
