Codava National Council President urges protection of inherent rights of Kodavas

Madikeri: In a firm declaration, Codava National Council(CNC) President Nandinervanda U Nachappa asserted that the pursuit of ‘Codavaland’ is an inherent birthright, firmly embedded in the Constitution. 

Mr Nachappa voiced concerns about the dominance of certain groups in Karnataka, spanning at least 60 Assembly Constituencies, who, he alleges, lack empathy for the well-being of smaller communities within their territories.

According to Mr Nachappa, during elections, these dominant groups cynically play communal cards while projecting a facade of secularism and inclusivity. He accused them of shedding crocodile tears when Indigenous micro-communities like the Codavas advocate for their legitimate rights under the Constitution. Mr Nachappa claims that these communal elements exploit other marginalized communities as human shields, using them to divert attention from their own lack of concern for Dalits and other underprivileged groups.

Highlighting the vast demographic influence of these groups from Sullia-Belthangady to Periyapatna, Nachappa alleges that they employ psychological warfare to intimidate the Kodavas, creating a climate of fear. He claims that these majoritarian communities, devoid of concern for constitutional principles, have even resorted to heinous acts such as making Dalits consume human feces.

Mr Nachappa emphasizes the supreme authority of the Constitution, crafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, as the primary tool to counter the designs of these majoritarian communities. He asserts that Kodavas must boldly reclaim their traditional homeland, protected by constitutional guarantees. Mr Nachappa calls upon the Kodavas to resist intimidation and manipulation, asserting their right to determine their future—a right safeguarded under the UN Charter and the Constitution.

In conclusion, Mr Nachappa urges Kodavas not to succumb to the bullying tactics of these dominant groups, asserting that the Kodavas cannot be bribed or bullied. He encourages the community to unite and seek protection from the highest courts, both within the country and at the international level, against any breaches of constitutional rights orchestrated by these majoritarian elements.
