Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) has penned a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, urging his intervention in the alleged Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Board's investment practices in Kodagu.
The CNC highlighted concerns about the Board's "soft money" being used to purchase land in Kodagu, which they argue is causing significant environmental and cultural harm.
In the letter, CNC Chairman N.U. Nachappa expressed congratulations to Naidu on his recent electoral victory and his appointment as Chief Minister. The letter praised Naidu's administrative acumen and highlighted his efforts to reform the TTD Board. However, it also brought attention to the negative impact of the Board's investments in Kodagu.
According to the CNC, the influx of Andhra investors, enabled by TTD's funds, is leading to the purchase of pristine lands at inflated prices. This has resulted in the excavation of hills and destruction of water sources, threatening the Cauvery River and the region's ecological balance. Codavas, described as a minuscule martial race, fear that their identity and traditional homeland are at risk, he wrote in letter.
The CNC urged Naidu to redirect TTD's investments to Kashmir, arguing that such a move would support national security and transform the region post-Article 370 abrogation. CNC stressed that protecting Kodagu’s environment and cultural heritage is paramount, and requested Naidu to advocate for Codava autonomy and ST status under Article 371(K).
The letter concludes with an appeal for Naidu's support in safeguarding the Codava community and their lands, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further ecological and cultural degradation in Kodagu.
