Kushalnagar: Amid opposition by the people of Kodagu against the proposed railway line to Kushalnagar, the survey is close to completion, and the land survey report is anticipated to be presented to the Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) next month.
The survey work for the 84.50-km Mysuru-Belagola-Kushalnagar Railway line, initiated in September 2022, is nearing completion, according to a report by Star of Mysore.
The initiative aimed to integrate Kodagu into India's railway network. However Kodagu residents are concerned that a railway line may draw in migrants and development projects, potentially harming the scenic hilly district. Moreover, they fear it could contribute to environmental issues and an increase in conflicts between elephants and humans.
The 87 km Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway line received approval in the fiscal year 2018-19, and the tender for FLS was granted in June 2022.
Now, According to Shilpi Agarwal, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Mysuru, as reported by Star of Mysore, they are eagerly awaiting the land survey report conducted from Belagola Railway Station in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district to Kushalnagar. Agarwal mentioned, "The survey report and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) are expected to be submitted next month, following which the construction will commence."
