Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast highlighting the potential effects of Cyclonic Storm 'Fengal' on weather conditions in Karnataka, including Kodagu district.
Cyclone Fengal, centred in the Southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast on the evening of 30 November with wind speeds of 70-80 kmph, gusting up to 90 kmph, according to a statement issued on 30 November by IMD.
Kodagu district, along with South Interior Karnataka, is likely to experience isolated thunderstorms with lightning from 1 December to 3 December. While rainfall activity will be light to moderate during this period, heavy downpours remain unlikely.
For Kodagu, the forecast indicates predominantly dry conditions until 1 December, followed by a possible increase in thunderstorm activity. The minimum temperatures in the region are likely to remain below normal by 1-2 degrees Celsius, especially during the early days of December.
The IMD advises residents to remain cautious, especially in vulnerable areas prone to lightning. Farmers in the district are encouraged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their crops from any adverse weather impacts.
Cyclone Fengal's trajectory and associated wind patterns are being closely monitored by the IMD.
