Siddapur: December will witness the annual migration of Kodagu(Coorg) families from around the world, as they return home for Christmas and New Year breaks, as well as a busy wedding season. This year, they can also look forward to a special event—the “Coorg Shandy,” a festival celebrating the Coorg way of life.
Set to take place on December 28 and 29, 2024, at Swarnamala Wedding Hall in Siddapur, the Coorg Shandy is built on three core pillars: coffee consciousness, community living, and country lifestyle. According to organisers, the festival promises something for everyone, from linen and home decor to gardening essentials for the ladies, and golfing equipment, rifle accessories, and 4x4 vehicles for the men. Children will enjoy activities like petting zoos and birding walks.
"Coorg Shandy has a little bit of something for everyone," said the organisers. They added that people can expect a range of Coorg delicacies from various local kitchens to be on offer.
The idea for the festival grew out of experiences in farmers' markets and country festivals in Wales, United Kingdom, according to Shonalli Ponnappa, who is curating the event. "We look at offering more soulful experiences that are deep-rooted in our childhood and our way of life," she said.
“In addition to food and shopping, the festival will feature country and retro bands from Bengaluru and Mysuru. The country duo Mr. Philip and Bobby from Mysuru have already confirmed their participation. Workshops on specialty coffee and pottery will also be held during the event,” added Shonalli Ponnappa.
