Madikeri: A family of three was found dead at a resort in Kaggodlu village near Madikeri in Kodagu district on Saturday morning. The couple native of Kerala allegedly killed their 11-year-old daughter, following which they killed themselves, according to police.

Vinod Babusenan, a 43-year-old from Kollam, Kerala, and his 38-year-old wife, GB Abraham, along with their daughter, Jane Maria Jacob, were discovered deceased at the resort.

The police, referencing a suicide note written by the family, indicated that a financial crisis drove them to take this extreme step. The couple operated a business in Kollam, said police.

“The family reached the resort on Friday evening in an SUV and completed check-in for their cottage at approximately 6 pm. After a brief rest, they ventured out for a walk around the resort. According to the resort manager, the family appeared to be normal upon their arrival. They had allegedly had informed the resort staff that they planned to check out at 10 am on Saturday. However, when they didn't do so as expected, the staff went to check on them," police said.

"At the scheduled checkout time of 10 am, a staff member knocked on the door, but there was no response. Thirty minutes later, the staff attempted another knock. This time, they noticed the family's slippers outside the cottage, raising suspicions. It was only when they peered through the window that they discovered the couple hanging,” a police official added.

Upon receiving information from the resort, the Madikeri Rural police station officials visited the spot and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination, and the incident has been communicated to their relatives. Police have registered a case and investigation is going on.
