Madikeri: In a first for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), buses with Madikeri RTO (KA-12) registration were introduced into the fleet on Thursday. Five new ‘Ashwamedha’ buses, with KA-12 vehicle registration numbers, were flagged off by MLA Mantar Gowda in a ceremony held in Madikeri.
These buses are a significant addition to the Madikeri depot and will initially operate as Dasara specials, catering to the increased demand during the Navarathri celebrations. After the festival, they will continue to serve various routes across Kodagu district, providing a boost to public transport.

MLA Mantar Gowda, while inaugurating the buses, shared that he had urged Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy to allocate buses with KA-12 registration during the Minister's recent visit to Shanivarasanthe in Kodagu. “I am pleased that the request has been fulfilled, and we now have KSRTC buses with Madikeri registration numbers,” he said.
The new buses also come with fancy registration numbers—KA-12 F-01, F-02, F-03, F-04, and F-05—further distinguishing them. Additionally, these buses are part of the state’s Shakti scheme, which allows women to travel for free.
More KSRTC buses are expected to be deployed in Kodagu in the coming months, with efforts to further improve transportation services in the region, MLA Gowda added.
