POLLIBETTA(KODAGU): The second edition of the Kodava Cricket Leather Ball Premier League (KPL) is currently underway at the scenic Tata Coffee cricket grounds in Pollibetta, bringing the excitement of franchise-based cricket to the heart of Kodagu.
Organised by the Coorg Cricket Foundation (CCF) in collaboration with Tata Coffee Ltd, the tournament began on April 1 and will conclude on April 13. Ten franchise teams—Kodava Warriors, Coorg United, Team Kodava Tribe, MTB Royals, Team Wildflower, Pragathi Cricketers, Coorg Blasters, Kodava Rising Stars, Western Ghat Warriors, and Team Leverage—were formed through a competitive bidding process.

This season introduces a new chapter with the participation of two women players, highlighting a step forward for women’s cricket in the region. With matches being streamed live on YouTube, the event is reaching a global audience eager to witness Kodagu’s cricketing flair.
Porukonda Sunil, founder and president of KPL, recalled the origins of the league, which was envisioned in 2018 as a platform to harness local cricketing potential. “Kodavas are known for intense hockey—now we are bringing that same passion to cricket,” he said.
Following a successful debut season in 2024 at Madikeri, the ongoing season has grown in scale and ambition. Beyond the game itself, KPL aims to promote fitness, discipline, and personal development among youth. “This initiative motivates young people not only to excel in sport but also to pursue academic and professional success,” Sunil added.
