Bhagamandala: Extreme rainfall has battered Talacauvery and Bhagamandala in Kodagu district over the past 24 hours, leading to significant flooding and disruptions in the region. Bhagamandala recorded 24.5 cm of rainfall, while Talacauvery received 28 cm, exacerbating the situation.
The intense downpour has caused water levels to rise dramatically, with water now reaching the steps of the Shri Bhagandeshwara Temple in Bhagamandala. The heavy rains have created challenging conditions, with many areas in the Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat inundated. Streams and ditches have overflowed, leading to widespread waterlogging and difficulties for local residents.
Authorities have responded to the situation by arranging temporary shelter for those affected. For residents living in areas severely impacted by flooding, especially those whose homes are no longer habitable due to the rising waters, accommodations have been set up at Kashi Math in Bhagamandala town.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a special pooja was conducted at the Bhagandeshwara Temple to honor the River Cauvery, which has reached the steps of the temple premises.
The meteorological department has issued warnings for continued heavy rainfall in the region, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
