Madikeri: Owing to relentless heavy rains, the Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu, Venkat Raja, has declared a holiday for all schools and PU Colleges in the district on Tuesday, 16 July. This decision comes as the region experiences continuous downpours, causing disruptions and posing safety risks for students.
The heavy rainfall, which has been lashing the district for several days, has led to waterlogging and flooding in several areas. Roads have become hazardous, and transportation has been significantly affected, prompting the district administration to prioritize the safety of school-going children.
Kodagu has been experiencing heavy rains over the past few days, leading to the declaration of an orange alert for the district on Tuesday. Areas such as Shanthalli, Bhagamandala, Somwarpet, Madikeri, Suntikoppa, Napoklu, Shanivarasanthe, Srimangala, and Sampaje have reported significant rainfall in the last 24 hours. The water level at Triveni Sangam in Bhagamandala has risen sharply due to the copious rains in the past 48 hours.
The Cauvery River is in spate as a result of the heavy rainfall. In response to the rising water levels, precautionary measures have been implemented in Kushalnagar to ensure the safety of residents.
