Bengaluru: On Tuesday, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, honored tennis player Rohan Bopanna for his victory in the men's doubles Australian Open and declared a reward of ₹50 lakh.
During the February 13 meeting with the Chief Minister, Mr Bopanna was joined by his family, while the CM was accompanied by Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S. Thangadagi, and his political secretary Govindaraju.
On social media platform X(formerly twitter), Mr Siddaramaiah posted: “Met and congratulated Rohan Bopanna, who won the men’s doubles title of Australian Open tennis tournament and announced a prize of ₹50 lakh.”
Mr Bopanna achieved the distinction of being the third Indian to secure a men's doubles Grand Slam title by clinching the Australian Open championship alongside his partner Matthew Ebden. They secured the victory in the final against Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
