Bengaluru: On Thursday, December 21, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the logo for the upcoming 'Kundyolanda Hockey Festival’ in Bengaluru.

Kundyolanda family to host 24th Kodava Hockey Festival in 2024. According to the family, the circular logo represents the timelessness of the kodava culture and tradition. Where there is no age limit to showcase your love and passion for hockey bound by the bold and outgoing colour red and the calmness of white.

The colours of the logo are an abstract derivative of Kupya and Saree. Symbolising the valor and strength of Kodavas. The roaring tiger with sharp teeth and a zeal to devour emerging from a Kodava striking, symbolises the various personalities and passions one has in Kodava tribe. The K H and C represent the Kundyolanda hockey carnival. The carnival depicted as a roaring tiger stands out in the entire logo, according to the Kundyolanda family.

Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister's legal advisor Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna was also present while Mr Siddaramaiah unveiled the logo.

Every year, the Kodava community organizes an annual inter-family hockey tournament in the hilly district, bringing together Kodava players from more than 200 families. Unfortunately, the hockey festival has not taken place since 2018, as it was canceled due to extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall and the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, the Appachettolanda family resumed hosting the annual Kodava hockey festival following a four-year hiatus. The sporting event, which imposes no restrictions based on age or gender, has a sole requirement for team formation: all members must belong to the same family.

The concept of the Kodava family hockey tournament, now recognized as the world's largest field hockey tournament and a significant national sporting event, originated from the visionary mind of the late Pandanda Kuttappa.
