Karnataka Congress Vice President Urges Kodagu Congress to Campaign for Separate Lok Sabha Constituency

The fact-finding committee, which includes senior leaders, was formed to analyze the reasons behind the party's recent loss in the Lok Sabha elections.

Madikeri: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Vice President V R Sudarshan has called on Kodagu district Congress leaders to initiate a campaign for a separate Lok Sabha constituency and the creation of three assembly constituencies within the district. Speaking at a fact-finding committee meeting held in Madikeri on Sunday, Sudarshan emphasized the importance of this move to preserve Kodagu's unique culture and history.

The fact-finding committee, which includes senior leaders, was formed to analyze the reasons behind the party's recent loss in the Lok Sabha elections. During the meeting, Sudarshan addressed district Congress leaders, including MLAs A.S. Ponnanna and Mantar Gowda, urging them to start campaigning immediately. "The delimitation process may occur soon, so it's crucial for Kodagu Congress leaders to begin advocating for a separate Lok Sabha constituency and three assembly constituencies," Sudarshan said.

He further highlighted that Kodagu, with its rich cultural heritage, deserves a dedicated voice in both the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly. "In the eastern parts of India, Lok Sabha seats have been allocated to protect unique cultures despite low population numbers. Kodagu has the right to have its own constituency in the Lok Sabha," he added.

Committee Probes Party's Defeat in Kodagu, Questions Over 150 Leaders

The committee also held separate meetings with the two MLAs regarding the party's poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, which were held on April 26, with results announced on June 4.

According to sources, the committee expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the BJP had taken the lead in Kodagu district. The committee questioned whether party leaders had worked effectively in the district and if there had been any incidents of anti-party activities. Over 150 party leaders were reportedly questioned during the six-hour meeting.
