‘Cauvery Aarti’ at Bengaluru's Sankey Tank:
After the rituals, the Deputy CM is expected to return to Bengaluru with the sacred Cauvery Theertha. The Karnataka government plans to host a grand religious event, Cauvery Aarti, at Sankey Tank in Bengaluru on the evening of March 21. Inspired by Varanasi’s Ganga Aarti, the ceremony will feature priests from the pilgrimage city in Uttar Pradesh, specially flown in for the occasion.
This is the first initiative of its kind by the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which began preparations at Sankey Tank.
The Cauvery River supplies about 70% of Bengaluru’s water, providing 2,225 million litres daily. The event will include a grand procession and puja, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar likely to attend. The BWSSB will also distribute water from Bhagamandala in Kodagu, where the Cauvery meets two other rivers, as prasada to attendees. Additional highlights include an illuminated display, a laser show, and a live orchestra.
