Madikeri: Kodagu, is once again experiencing a surge in monsoon activity, with the district recording 54.9 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours up to 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Following a short break, the southwest monsoon has returned with increased intensity, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for Kodagu for Friday.
Heavy rains have been particularly severe in Bhagamandala and Shanthalli. Bhagamandala recorded 106.4 mm of rain, while Shanthalli experienced a staggering 218 mm. Other areas affected include Koodlipet with 105 mm, Hudkeri with 127 mm, Srimangala with 96 mm, Shanivarsanthe with 86 mm, and Napoklu with 69.2 mm. Among the taluks, Somwarpet saw 129.95 mm of rainfall.
The deluge has led to considerable disruption, with the district administration working urgently to repair damage and clear affected roads. Reports indicate that several homes have suffered significant damage, including collapses in Toluru Shettahalli village in Somwarpet.
Moreover, a landslide has occurred on the Kalkandur Shanthalli Road in Somwarpet taluk, and several trees have fallen onto roads, including the Talacauvery-Bhagamandala route. The administration is actively addressing these issues to restore normalcy and ensure safe travel for residents.
With the monsoon expected to continue, local authorities advise residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories.
