Kodagu Forest Department Drives 32 Elephants Back to Forest

The operation began after the herd was found camped inside a coffee plantation in Thithimathi.

Gonikoppa: In a successful operation, the Kodagu Forest Department has relocated a herd of 32 wild elephants that had been causing disruptions in several villages.

The elephants, which had been roaming through Siddapur, Ammati, Palibetta, and Maldare, were successfully guided back to the Maldare forest, approximately 8 kilometers away.

The operation began after the herd was found camped inside a coffee plantation in Thithimathi. They had ventured from Barangala estate in Badagabanangala village and were creating significant challenges for local laborers and farmers. The forest department’s team worked to direct the elephants through Margolli estate to their natural habitat in Maldare forest.

This intervention has brought relief to the local community, which had been concerned about the safety and potential damage caused by the elephants.
