Madikeri: Kodagu is preparing to launch a large-scale screening program for vulnerable tribal communities throughout the district to detect Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).
As part of the Sickle Cell Mission program, the Union government has set a screening target for vulnerable tribal communities in Karnataka. Under 'Project Chandana', vulnerable tribal communities in Kodagu, Mysuru, and other areas will be screened, according to a report in PV.
The Sickle Cell Mission program is a key initiative of the Union Government aimed at raising awareness, reducing the prevalence, and enhancing the care of patients with Sickle Cell disease. This hereditary disorder primarily affects Indian tribes and has the world's second-highest prevalence, as noted by the Centre for Training, Research, and Innovation in Tribal Health (CTRITH).
