Madikeri: Following a police inquiry into a complaint from a woman in Mullusoge village, Kushalnagar, who alleged that two unidentified men asked her to vacate her house, claiming it belonged to the ‘Waqf Board’, Kodagu District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan has issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation.
In his statement, Ramarajan cautioned that strict action would be taken against individuals spreading false news to incite communal discord.
The Kodagu police took note of a social media post referencing a letter by Renuka Uthappa to the Kodava Samaja, which reported an alleged visit by two unidentified men to her Mullusoge residence on November 6, demanding she vacate the property, while 15 others reportedly waited outside to evict her.
No formal complaint was initially filed with either the local police or the Superintendent’s office. However, police acted on the matter and dispatched Kushalnagar Town Police Sub-Inspector H.T. Geetha to visit Renuka’s Bengaluru residence to collect information and register an FIR.
Ramarajan clarified that the property in question is privately owned and does not belong to the Waqf Board. No representatives from the board visited the property or issued any notice, and inquiries with neighbours indicated no group of 15 men appeared near her residence.
Renuka also claimed she received threat calls on October 29 and 30, yet police investigations into her call records revealed no such activity.
The police investigation continues to ascertain the purpose of the two men’s visit. Meanwhile, Ramarajan urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified news, which could disturb social harmony and law and order. He encouraged residents to report any suspicious incidents to the local police or emergency line 112, assuring confidentiality for anyone providing information on illegal activities.
