Madikeri: Dechamma M.S., a former student of Kodagu Vidyalaya, has been selected to participate in the prestigious international SAKURA Science Exchange Programme in Japan. Her project, an 'Overhead Tank Cleaner,' earned recognition at the national level under the INSPIRE MANAK scheme, leading to her selection for the event.
Dechamma, who studied in the 10th grade at Kodagu Vidyalaya during the 2022-23 academic year, developed the project under the guidance of science teacher Ponnamma P.S. The innovative concept aims to simplify the cleaning of water tanks, addressing a common problem with a creative solution.
The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has invited national-level INSPIRE MANAK winners to participate in the SAKURA programme, scheduled to be held from June 15 to 21 this year. Dechamma is the only student selected from Kodagu for this prestigious event.
Currently pursuing her second-year Pre-University Course (PUC) at Nalanda Gurukula College, Dechamma hails from Arapattu and is the daughter of Mukkattira P. Subramani and Anju Subramani (Thamane Ammanda).
Expressing her gratitude, she acknowledged the support of her mentors at Kodagu Vidyalaya, including school principal Sumitra K.S., her teachers, family members, and friends, who played a key role in her achievement.
