Ponnampet: Bekkesodlur village in Ponnampet taluk is hosting the inaugural Kodava Family Volleyball Tournament, organised by the Mallamada family. The tournament, which began on Saturday, was inaugurated by Theethira Appachu, Deputy Chief Electrical Inspector with the State Government.
The event is taking place at the Sri Sharada High School grounds and will run until October 13, 2024. This is the first-ever volleyball tournament organised exclusively for Kodava families, marking a significant moment for the community. A colourful cultural procession from the village’s main road to the tournament grounds preceded the sporting event, showcasing the rich traditions of the Kodava people.
The tournament offers attractive cash prizes. The team that clinches first place will be awarded ₹40,000 and a trophy. The second-place team will take home ₹30,000 and a trophy, while the third-place team will receive ₹20,000 and a trophy. The fourth-place team will also be rewarded with ₹10,000 and a trophy.
The two-day event is expected to draw volleyball enthusiasts from across Kodagu, uniting families through a shared love of sport and tradition.
