Napoklu: The excitement is palpable as the stage is set for the much-anticipated 'Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival,' slated to commence with a grand inauguration on March 30 at 10:30 am at the Napoklu General Thimayya Ground. The event will be inaugurated by Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna, the legal advisor to the Chief Minister of Karnataka and Virajpet MLA.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ramesh Muddaiah, president of the Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival, said, "all preparations have been meticulously executed for tomorrow's grand inauguration at Napoklu General Thimayya Ground by Mr. Ponnanna. This year's hockey tournament has set a new record with the participation of 360 Kodava family teams. We have made seating arrangements for 30,000 spectators, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience. Six matches will be held daily across three grounds."
Beyond the hockey matches, the carnival promises a plethora of attractions. A food festival showcasing Kodava delicacies and other cuisines, matrimonial initiatives, and cultural events celebrating the rich heritage of the community are among the highlights of the extravaganza.
Dinesh Cariappa, convenor of the Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival (KHC), elaborated on the diverse offerings, stating, "Educational sessions on traditional Kodava folk songs, famously known as Baloo Paat, will be conducted to preserve cultural traditions. Additionally, two marathons — 5 km and 10 km — are scheduled to promote fitness and community participation. Selfie points will be strategically placed across the venue, allowing attendees to capture memorable moments and create lasting memories."
Temporary bleachers surround the ground to accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators. Various amenities, including galleries, lighting, speakers, and display boards, have been installed by the organizers.
