Lions Club Gonikoppal hosts successful district-level hockey tournament

Gonikoppal: The Lions Club Gonikoppal successfully organised a one-day District Level 5-A-Side Hockey Tournament for pre-university boys and girls on November 30, 2024, at the Lions Primary School turf in Kaikeri.

The event brought together young talents from across the district, showcasing their passion and skill for the sport. Among the highlights, CIT College, Halligattu, emerged victorious in the girls' category, with Cauvery College, Virajpet, securing the runners-up position. In the boys' category, Anugraha PU College, Kushalnagar, claimed the championship, defeating St Anne's, Virajpet, who finished as runners-up.

Individual accolades were awarded to outstanding performers. Drushya Achappa of CIT College was named the best player in the girls' category, while Gokul of Anugraha PU College received the same honour in the boys' category. Sanketh, also from Anugraha PU College, earned recognition as the highest goal scorer of the tournament. The Junior College team from Ponnampet was applauded as the most disciplined team.

The Lions Club Gonikoppal, known for fostering community engagement and youth development, continues to champion sports as a means to nurture talent and promote teamwork. The tournament not only celebrated the spirit of hockey but also highlighted the enthusiasm of young players in Kodagu, reinforcing the district’s reputation for excellence in sports.

The event concluded on a high note, with participants and spectators lauding the organisers for creating an encouraging platform for budding athletes.
