Somwarpet: Somwarpet police have imposed a fine of ₹18,500 on a man for performing a dangerous bike stunt known as wheeling near a college and for failing to carry necessary vehicle documents.
According to reports, local residents had complained about a biker engaging in reckless wheeling on public roads, endangering pedestrians and motorists. Acting on the complaints, the police investigated the matter and successfully apprehended the accused. Upon inspection, they found that he was not carrying essential documents such as a driving licence and vehicle registration papers. As a result, he was penalised for multiple violations, including stunt riding and non-compliance with vehicle regulations.
A report by Prajavani stated that the police have issued a strict warning against wheeling, emphasising that such stunts pose a serious risk to public safety. The authorities have reiterated that any form of reckless driving will not be tolerated, and immediate legal action will be taken against violators.
Concerns over wheeling have been raised multiple times by the general public and elected representatives in Somwarpet's taluk panchayat and town panchayat meetings. Residents have urged stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent accidents caused by stunt biking.
Dangers and legal consequences of wheeling
Wheeling, a stunt where a rider lifts the front wheel of the bike off the ground while moving at high speed, is highly dangerous. It can result in severe injuries or fatalities for both the rider and others on the road. In India, performing stunts on public roads is illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act. Offenders can face hefty fines, licence suspension, and even imprisonment in cases of severe violations.
Police have urged the youth to refrain from engaging in such life-threatening activities and to prioritise road safety.
