Madikeri: Mind and Matter, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Kodagu, is preparing to conduct its third annual mental health awareness campaign for schools and colleges. The campaign will take place from the 9 to the 16 of November, across Kodagu, Mysuru, and Hassan districts.
The campaign is a collaboration with the Department of Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, Bengaluru. The campaign aims to raise awareness about mental well-being among students and faculty, using participatory workshops that focus on different aspects of mental health.
Deepika Appaiah, the founder of Mind and Matter, shared, "We will be conducting mental well-being workshops in educational institutions across three districts. The trust started in July 2020, and the focus has always been holistic wellness. The aim is to build a conscious and harmonious environment. We have been working with Kodagu and Mysuru district child protection units since December 2020 and July 2022 respectively."
To ensure the success of the campaign, Mind and Matter is calling for volunteers who can commit to a week in November. Volunteers will undergo two days of training by professionals from NIMHANS and will then spend six days visiting schools and colleges to conduct interactive mental health sessions.
"The volunteers we select will receive training from our team," said Deepika. "We encourage anyone interested in making a difference to get involved."
