Madikeri: As coffee harvesting season begins in Kodagu, also known as Coorg, it is crucial for plantation workers and growers to stay informed about the minimum wages applicable in the district. Kodagu, a key coffee-growing region in Karnataka, is home to thousands of labourers who contribute significantly to the coffee industry.
According to the Coorg Planters’ Association (CPA), the apex district-level organisation representing plantation crop growers in Kodagu, the minimum wages for plantation labour effective from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the minimum daily wage has been set at ₹451.22. This includes a basic wage of ₹425 and a Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) of ₹26.22.
Coffee estates in Kodagu are not only the backbone of the local economy but also a significant contributor to India’s coffee exports.
