MADIKERI: Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna and Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda on Saturday evening firmly rejected any links to the suicide case of BJP activist Vinay Somaiah, dismissing claims of political involvement.

Addressing reporters in Madikeri, Ponnanna stated, “I had no personal or official interaction with Vinay Somaiah and have not instructed anyone to pursue legal action against him.” He clarified that the investigation and related actions were independently handled by the police, urging that the issue should not be turned into a political controversy.

Echoing a similar stance, Mantar Gowda expressed shock over the allegations, saying, “It is baffling to see my name being dragged into this. I only spoke to Vinay on November 24 after receiving a message from him regarding a hospital matter. That was our sole communication.”

Responding to BJP’s accusations that the Congress government was allegedly using the police force to harass opposition party members, Mr. Ponnanna retorted, “Cases were also filed against Thennira Myna during Congress governance. The BJP should explain those incidents if it claims political targeting.”

Both Congress legislators urged opposition leaders to refrain from politicising a sensitive issue and emphasised that the judicial process should proceed without interference. They reiterated their confidence in the legal system and called for responsible political discourse during such times.
