Madikeri: In a recent press release, Nandineravanda U. Nachappa, president of the Codava National Council (CNC), has raised serious concerns over the resurgence of the Naxal menace in the borders of Kodagu. Mr Nachappa emphasized that the Naxal combing operations during election periods pose a significant threat to internal peace, national security, and the sovereignty of the nation.
Mr Nachappa stated, "The Naxal menace should be permanently eradicated and nipped in the bud to safeguard our homeland and the rights of self-determination of the Codava people."
According to the press release, the roots of Naxalism in the region can be traced back to historical injustices, including the tragic Devaattparamb Codava Genocide. Mr Nachappa highlighted that the indigenous Codava Warriors effectively quelled the initial sprouting of Naxalism in the 1800s, protecting the Codava homeland and asserting their rights.
“However, the threat resurfaced after the merger of Coorg State with Vishal Mysore in 1956, leading to incidents of Naxal activities in the region,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr Nachappa expressed concern over the alleged collaboration between anti-Codava elements and Naxalites. He accused certain law officers, university professors, intellectual mafias, NGO mafias, and labor union mafias of covertly supporting Naxal activities.
"The Codava-hating political class, with their clandestine networks, pose a grave threat to our nation's peace and security," Mr Nachappa warned.
Mr Nachappa called upon government intelligence agencies to intensify surveillance on these elements and take decisive action to eradicate the Naxal menace. He urged the government to address the legitimate aspirations of the Codava people and protect their heritage and rights.
In conclusion, Mr Nachappa emphasized the urgency of addressing the Naxal threat to maintain peace, tranquility, and sovereignty in Codavaland and the nation at large.
