Plastic ban enforced for Cauvery Theerthodbhava at Talacauvery & Bhagamandala

Every year, thousands of devotees flock to the holy site, carrying plastic bottles and containers to collect the revered Theertha (holy water) from the Talacauvery pond.

Bhagamandala: The annual Cauvery Theerthodbhava, marking the sacred emergence of the river Cauvery, is set to take place at Talacauvery on October 17 at 7:40 a.m. As preparations gear up for the auspicious event, the temple authorities of Sri Bhagandeshwara-Talacauvery Temple have announced a complete ban on plastic in and around the temple premises during the festival.

Every year, thousands of devotees flock to the holy site, carrying plastic bottles and containers to collect the revered Theertha (holy water) from the Talacauvery pond. However, this practice has led to increasing environmental concerns, with plastic waste polluting the temple and surrounding areas. The temple authorities, aiming to protect the sanctity of the place and the environment, have urged devotees to refrain from bringing plastic items and instead use eco-friendly alternatives.

Collecting the Theertha, which is believed to emerge miraculously at the appointed time, is a cherished ritual for the devotees, who take the holy water home for worship. Witnessing and collecting the sacred water is considered to bring blessings, and many devotees immerse themselves in the pond as part of a cleansing ritual that is believed to purify both body and soul.

The Cauvery Theerthodbhava holds immense religious and cultural significance for the people of Kodagu and the larger Cauvery basin region. The event draws not only locals but also pilgrims from neighboring states.
