Virajpet: In a landmark development for the Kodava community and its cultural heritage, Ajjinikanda Mahesh Nachaiah, editor of Poomaale Kodava Weekly, has been appointed as the President of the Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy by the Karnataka government.
Mr. Nachaiah's journey in journalism and cultural activism spans decades, marked by unwavering dedication and remarkable achievements. Commencing his illustrious career with the inception of the Kodava newspaper Poomaale in 1996, Mr. Nachaiah has been a pivotal figure in preserving and promoting the Kodava language and culture.
His invaluable contributions have been duly recognized, evident in his accolades such as the Karnataka Media Academy Award and his role as a founding member of the Gonikoppa Kodava Samaja. Notably, Mr. Nachaiah orchestrated the inaugural Kodava Cultural Mela in New Delhi in 2006, showcasing the richness of Kodava heritage on a national platform.
Mr. Nachaiah's commitment to linguistic enrichment is evident through his extensive research endeavors, resulting in the addition of 130 new words to the Kodava language. Moreover, his tenure as a news presenter in Kodava language at Madikeri All India Radio further exemplifies his dedication to linguistic preservation and propagation.
Beyond journalism, Mr. Nachaiah has exhibited compassion and social responsibility through various initiatives. Through Poomaale newspaper, he spearheaded fundraising efforts to aid victims of Kodagu floods, the Kargil war, and numerous other natural calamities across India, reflecting his deep-rooted sense of community and altruism.
Born in Chambebellur village in Virajpet to Ajjinikanda C Chengappa and Ponnamma, Mr. Nachaiah's journey to prominence is a testament to his perseverance and vision. He is joined in his endeavors by his spouse, Ajjinikanda Pramila Nachaiah, who serves as the assistant editor of Poomaale newspaper. The couple is blessed with two accomplished children, Thanvi Thangamma and Don Nachaiah, both of whom have pursued engineering and are working in private firms.
Prior to his journalistic pursuits, Mr. Nachaiah honed his skills through academic pursuits, completing his Master of Arts degree from Mysore University. Subsequently, he garnered diverse experiences working in private firms from 1989 to 1995 in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Nachaiah's appointment as the President of Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy heralds a new chapter in the cultural landscape of Karnataka, promising continued advocacy and preservation of Kodava heritage under his able leadership.
