Mysuru: As the elections for the Kodagu-Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency approach on April 26 during the initial phase of polling in Karnataka, the public campaign by political parties and candidates will cease on Wednesday, April 24 at 6 p.m.

A 48-hour silence period, prohibiting public campaigning, will be enforced in the constituency leading up to the conclusion of polling. Nevertheless, door-to-door campaigning remains permissible, according to election authorities.

Polling hours are set from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters will receive indelible ink on their left index finger upon casting their vote. The Kodagu and Mysuru district administrations have meticulously organized the election process, nearing completion with assistance from district police and other departments.

The intensive month-long campaign period will conclude on Wednesday. Ahead of the April 26 election, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru and returning officer K.V. Rajendra convened a press conference at his office on Tuesday to outline the preparations. He mentioned that polling will be conducted across eight Assembly constituencies – six in Mysuru district and two in Kodagu district. A total of 2,092,222 voters are eligible to participate, comprising 1,026,324 males, 1,065,714 females, and 184 others.

Voters will exercise their voting rights at 2,202 polling booths located in Madikeri and Virajpet (both in Kodagu), as well as in the Chamundeshwari, Krishnaraja, Chamaraja, Narasimharaja, Hunsur, and Periyapatna constituencies (all situated in Mysuru).

Mustering and demustering centers have been set up in all eight Assembly constituencies, with polling staff instructed to report to their respective centers on April 25th.

A total of 473 Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) buses, along with 33 MUVs (Multi Utility Vehicles) and 79 mini-buses, will transport the polling staff to their designated booths.

In Kodagu and Mysuru, 40 Sakhi booths staffed entirely by women officers will operate. Additionally, there will be two ethnic booths, eight booths operated by individuals with disabilities and young staff each, along with seven theme-based booths. All booths will be furnished with essential amenities, such as wheelchairs, and magnifying glasses will be available for voters. Senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) will have access to transportation to reach their respective booths. Braille ballot papers have been provided to assist visually impaired voters, ensuring inclusivity in the voting process.
