Madikeri: A peaceful protest has been organised by ex-servicemen in Kodagu to condemn defamatory messages circulated on social media about two of India’s most revered military leaders, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimayya.
The protest is scheduled to take place on Friday, 6 December 2024, at 10:00 AM at Sudharshan Circle, Madikeri. Organisers have called for strict action against the miscreant responsible for tarnishing the legacy of these proud sons of Kodagu.
In a statement, the ex-servicemen leading the protest described the remarks as deeply disrespectful to the memory of two icons who dedicated their lives to the nation. They urged patriotic citizens and organisations to join in large numbers to demand justice and uphold the dignity of these legendary military leaders.
Earlier, the police had arrested Madikeri-based lawyer K.R. Vidyadhar following allegations of making derogatory remarks about Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimayya in a social media post.
On 22 November, Vidyadhar was arrested late at night by the Kodagu police for the alleged remarks. He was presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Madikeri, where the government prosecutor filed an objection opposing bail. However, the court granted him conditional bail later that night, resulting in his release.
