Rain Alert in Kodagu(Coorg) for December 2-3 Amid Cyclone Fengal Impact


The rain distribution for Kodagu indicates light to moderate rainfall (2.5 mm to 64.4 mm) across widespread areas.

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday, December 1, forecasted rainfall for Kodagu, also known as Coorg, on December 2 and 3 due to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal. The district, renowned for its lush landscapes, is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall, with some areas likely seeing widespread showers.



The IMD Bengaluru Director, C.S. Patil, said, “South Interior Karnataka, including Kodagu, will likely experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Northern regions of Interior Karnataka may see lighter, isolated showers.”


Synoptic Overview:


According to IMD weather bulletin issued on 2 December 12 pm, the remnants of Cyclone Fengal, now a well-marked low-pressure area, are currently located over North Interior Tamil Nadu. This system is expected to move westward and re-emerge over the Arabian Sea near the north Kerala-Karnataka coast on December 3, potentially sustaining rainfall in Kodagu and neighboring districts.

According to the IMD bulletin:


December 2: Kodagu is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with isolated areas experiencing heavier downpours.


December 3: Rainfall intensity will likely continue, with conditions persisting due to the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over North Interior Tamil Nadu.
