Madikeri: Continuous drizzling over the past two days in various parts of Kodagu district is causing concerns among farmers. The intermittent rainfall and cloudy weather pose a threat to the ongoing paddy and coffee harvesting activities in the district, according to farmers.

In areas like Napoklu, Kakkabe, and Kadanga, heavy to moderate showers accompanied by lightning and thunder are raising worries among coffee and paddy growers.

"The Arabica variety of coffee, in particular, is at risk as beans are still drying in the yards, hindered by the persistent cloudy conditions," said Prakash Ponnacha from Parane near Murnad while expressing his concerns about potential damage to the coffee harvest.

Additionally, the sudden rainfall has forced farmers like Ravi Bopaiah from Kutta to postpone paddy harvesting plans, impacting agricultural activities in the district.

Meanwhile, officials from the Weather department attribute these showers to low pressure in the Arabian Sea. The situation heightens fears of further damage to crops if the rain persists.
