Madikeri: Raja Seat, one of Madikeri’s most famous tourist attractions in Kodagu (Coorg), is hosting its annual flower show, which began today, January 24, and will continue until January 27. Organised as part of Republic Day celebrations, the flower show is accompanied by an exhibition at Gandhi Maidan, offering visitors a range of attractions.
Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja said that this four-day event showcases a variety of stunning floral creations designed to captivate visitors. Special arrangements have been made to delight children, and entry is free for those wearing school uniforms. For adults, the entry fee is ₹20. The flower show is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This year, ₹35 lakh has been allocated for the flower show, with several highlights planned. The Horticulture Department’s honey, marketed under the “Jhenkara” brand, is being promoted, with floral depictions of the Jhenkara and Coorg Honey brands adding a unique touch to the displays.
One of the main attractions is a floral model of the iconic Sri Omkareshwara temple, which has been crafted using five lakh flowers. Additionally, models of honey bees and vintage cars have been created to enhance the experience.
Efforts are also underway to repair the toy train, with a report being sought from railway engineers in Mysuru. Meanwhile, a team of experts from New Delhi recently visited to address issues with the musical fountain, and repairs are expected soon, according to the Deputy Commissioner.
Located about a kilometre west of the Madikeri bus stand, Raja Seat has long been a cherished spot for visitors. Historically, it served as a retreat for Kodagu kings and their consorts, offering mesmerising views of green valleys and mountains, with roads and rivers glimmering in the distance. This picturesque setting continues to draw tourists and locals alike, making the flower show an unmissable event.
