Madikeri: As the Lok Sabha election is nearing and might be announced soon, the list of aspirants from various political parties to contest the Kodagu-Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency is growing. Now, adding to this list of aspirants is retired IPS officer Bhaskar Rao from BJP.

Addressing reporters in Madikeri on February 27, he expressed his aspiration to run for the Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency on the BJP ticket. He mentioned his prior experience as the SP in Kodagu district from 1996 to 1999, highlighting his familiarity with the region, its political leaders, and his intent to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“I've had discussions with senior leaders at both the state and district levels. My candidacy is contingent upon the decision of the BJP high command. If the BJP grants me the ticket, I am pleased to contest here,” Mr Rao said.

At a recent event in Mysuru, Mr. Rao identified himself as a native of Mysuru, stating that his birthplace was Kalale village in Nanjangud taluk. He mentioned that his ancestors were from Mysuru, and notably, his grandfather had participated in the First World War.

Mr. Rao mentioned that he had a clean record during his 34 years of service in the Police Department. He had been stationed in various locations across the State, including Mysuru and Kodagu.

Mr. Rao’s efforts to connect the two districts- Kodagu and Mysuru comes at a time when the incumbent BJP MP, Pratap Simha, is distributing a booklet showcasing his achievements during his 10-year tenure as the representative of the constituency.

Former MP C.H. Vijayashankar, who ran as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, is now aspiring for the BJP ticket. After his defeat in the 2019 polls, Mr. Vijayashankar returned to the BJP and has expressed his desire to contest on the party's ticket.

Following the pre-poll alliance between the BJP and JD(S), there were rumors about the regional party, JD(S), considering the candidacy of former Minister S.R. Mahesh for the constituency. However, the current understanding is that JD(S) is likely to concede the constituency to the BJP once the seat-sharing agreement is settled.
