Madikeri: Following adverse weather conditions, the Education Department has announced a holiday for all primary and high schools across Kodagu district on Monday, July 15. This decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of students amidst the current local circumstances.
Heavy rains and strong winds have wreaked havoc across the district, causing extensive damage to both public and private property. After a brief respite, the rains resumed with intensified force since Sunday, exacerbating the situation.
In Madikeri, roads leading to Galibeedu village are impassable due to fallen trees and power poles. Forest department teams are actively clearing these obstructions to restore access. Meanwhile, near a resort in Somawarpet, six vehicles sustained damage from falling branches, fortunately without injury to the occupants.
Tragically, in Chowdlu village, a three-month-old calf belonging to local resident Suresh was electrocuted when a power line snapped. The incident underscores the dangers posed by the adverse weather conditions.
In Shanivarasanthe hobli's Chennapur village, Lakshmi's house suffered partial damage, while in Guddethosuru village of Kushalnagar taluk, Janardhan's house wall collapsed, necessitating inspection by taluk officials led by tahsildar Kiran Gaurayya.
Further south, in Mekeri village of Sampaje hobli, Ayisha's house suffered a collapsed wall and structural damage, prompting authorities to relocate affected residents to safer accommodations.
The district administration advises residents to exercise caution and stay informed about further developments as they work to mitigate the impact of the ongoing inclement weather.
