New Delhi: After the security breach at the Lok Sabha in New Delhi on Wednesday, 13 December, police have identified two intruders as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan. According to a report in The Hindu that Sagar Sharma, one of the intruders, possessed a Parliament visitor pass issued by Mysuru-Kodagu BJP MP Pratap Simha.

The Lok Sabha experienced a startling incident as two individuals breached the House from the public gallery, carrying what seemed to be gas canisters. As they entered during the Zero Hour, one of them vaulted over the benches, while the other hung from the public gallery, releasing a gas substance. This created chaos and confusion within the House.

The incident took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, which resulted in the loss of nine lives. “The incident that happened during Zero Hour is being investigated by the Lok Sabha, and Delhi Police has been given requisite directions regarding the same. However, the smoke, which was the reason of our worry, has been found in preliminary investigation that it’s not a matter of concern,” said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, as reported by The Hindu.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for two hours after the incident before resuming at 4 pm, during which Speaker Om Birla addressed the seriousness of the issue, stating that an investigation is underway. He assured that security measures would be strengthened, and a meeting with leaders of all political parties would be convened to discuss the incident. Subsequently, the house was adjourned until Thursday by the speaker.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the attack on the Parliament building is shocking and disturbing. “I condemn this act of violence. It is a relief that all the members of the Parliament are safe. Despite the high security, the occurrence of such an incident is indeed a shocking development. It is clear that this is a lapse in the security system. It is the duty of the Union Government, especially the Home Minister, to carry out a fair investigation and disclose the full details of the incident to the public,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr. Siddaramaiah further stated that there are emerging reports suggesting that the individuals who got into the Parliament building today were provided passes by Mr. Pratap Simha. If these reports are true, then it implies that these youths might have been known to the MP. If they were not acquaintances, then how were passes issued to strangers? It should be noted that even inadvertent acts of negligence are also punishable under the law.
