Ponnampet: The Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama in Ponnampet has broadened its outreach by launching a dental clinic, pharmacy, and diagnostic centre. These facilities were inaugurated on Friday by Swami Muktidananda, president of the Mysuru Ramakrishna Ashrama.
Addressing the gathering, Swami Muktidananda emphasised the importance of community support in driving the ashram’s development. "For any religious institution to flourish, the cooperation of the local people is vital," he said, praising the contributions of the Kodagu community in supporting the ashram’s initiatives.
Swami Bhodaswaroopananda, former president of the Ponnampet Ashrama and now leading the Halasuru Ramakrishna Ashrama in Bengaluru, highlighted the ashram’s efforts during crises. He recalled the construction of a new worship hall during his tenure, achieved with the support of Ponnampet residents, and recounted the ashram’s service to the Kodagu community during the devastating floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Swami Parahitananda, head of the Ponnampet unit, announced plans for the ashram’s centenary celebrations in early 2026. He revealed that the existing hospital would be renovated and equipped with modern technology to better serve the region’s healthcare needs.
The event was graced by several esteemed monks, including Swami Atmavidhananda, Swami Nithyasthananda, Swami Tattvarupananda, Swami Jitakamananda, and Swami Divya Bhodhananda, further highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The ashram's new facilities mark a significant step in its ongoing mission to serve the people of Kodagu through spiritual and social initiatives.
