Tourists Advised to Avoid Kodagu (Coorg) During Monsoon Due to Severe Weather

A recent landslide occurred in a coffee estate in Aiyangeri village, Kodagu.

Madikeri: In light of the severe downpour and the red alert issued for July 31 and August 1, Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja has urged tourists to postpone their visits to the district. Kodagu, also known as Coorg, is renowned for its lush coffee plantations, stunning landscapes, and vibrant wildlife, attracting lakhs of tourists each year. However, the region is currently experiencing extreme weather conditions.

The intense rainfall has led to flooding and landslides, causing significant disruptions, including road connectivity issues across several areas. The situation has raised concerns about safety, prompting the district administration to take precautionary measures.

Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja stated, “For safety reasons, those planning to visit Kodagu on July 31 and August 1 should avoid traveling and reschedule their trips.” This advisory aims to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of both tourists and locals during this hazardous period.

The district's natural beauty and hospitality continue to make it a popular destination, but the current weather conditions make visiting risky. “Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Visitors are encouraged to stay informed and plan their trips accordingly to avoid any inconvenience,” local district administration officials said.
