Kushalnagar: Kodagu forest authorities have apprehended two individuals for allegedly hunting deer in a coffee plantation, while a third suspect remains on the run.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sunil (34) from Siddapura and K.D. Muthanna (59) from Napoklu. The absconding individual is A.N. Shyam (50), a resident of Kakkabe near Napoklu.
According to reports, the suspects are accused of killing two deer that wandered into a coffee plantation in Atturu-Nalluru village, located within the Kushalnagar Forest Zone. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials arrested two of the accused and discovered that the poachers had skinned and dismembered the deer, later burying the remains in the plantation to conceal their actions.
The arrested suspects have been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act and remanded to judicial custody. The authorities have intensified their efforts to locate Shyam, who is still at large.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by forest officials in combating wildlife crimes in the region. The killing of deer, which are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, is a serious offense that carries stringent penalties. Forest and police officials are urging the public to report any information that could aid in apprehending the third suspect.
