MADIKERI: In a first for the iconic Kodava Hockey Festival, the ongoing Muddanda Cup will see the introduction of video referral technology, marking a significant leap forward in blending tradition with technology. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College grounds in Madikeri on Monday, 21 April.
Ajjettira Vikram Uthappa, the sports commentator for the festival, and live-streaming and referral advisor Iychettira Tanish said that five large LED screens will be installed to facilitate video referrals from the quarterfinal stage onwards. “This is the first time such a system is being implemented in the Kodava Hockey Festival. It has been made possible through collaboration with the Muddanda family and the Kodava Hockey Academy,” they noted.
Each team playing in the quarterfinals — four matches among eight teams — will be allowed two video referrals, and third umpires will be deployed to aid on-field decisions, they added.
