Wine Shop Owner Dies in Accidental Shooting From Own Gun in Cherambane, Kodagu

Ponnachettira Mithra Chengappa (49), a local wine shop owner, died after being hit by a bullet fired from his own single-barrel gun.

Madikeri: In a tragic incident in Cherambane village, Ponnachettira Mithra Chengappa (49), the owner of a local wine shop, lost his life after being struck by a bullet from his own single-barrel gun.


The incident occurred around midnight outside the wine shop owned by Chengappa. According to the police, it is suspected that the gun accidentally discharged after falling to the ground. However, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.


A case has been registered at the Bhagamandala police station under the jurisdiction of the Madikeri Rural Police. Chengappa's body has been moved to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem and other formalities.


The sudden and shocking death has left the local community in Cherambane in mourning. Police are continuing their inquiries to establish the sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting.
